How can I add the Insert Frame command to the Insert menu?

Article contributed by Bill Coan

For reasons discussed in The draw layer: a metaphysical space, Frames are very useful in Word 97 and above, but unfortunately, Microsoft has not made the Insert Frame command easily accessible. To fix this:

  1. Choose Customize on the Tools menu.

  2. Click the Commands tab.

  3. Pull down the Save In list and select Normal.dot (assuming you want the command to be available in all documents).

  4. Select All Commands in the Categories List.

  5. Select InsertFrame in the Command list and drag it up to the Insert Menu.

  6. Wait for the Insert Menu to display, then drop the InsertFrame command where desired.

  7. Click Close.
