Welcome to Word:mac
You have landed on the home page of the Word for Macintosh section of The Word MVP Site. Congratulations and welcome!
If you’re looking for information on issues specific to Word for the Macintosh, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re struggling with application problems, click on the Troubleshooting link to the left; for tips, techniques and how-to’s, try Using Word:mac; and check the Reference section for useful links and more.
These pages, devoted to the Macintosh user who wishes to learn how to use or troubleshoot Mac Word, are but a small section of a much larger site containing perhaps the most extensive repository of tips and techniques for Microsoft Word on the web. Keep in mind that Word is Word, so although the articles you’ll find by clicking on Word General above were written about Word for Windows, they apply equally to Mac Word in most cases.
Note that this sub-site, like its parent, is owned and operated by MVPs. We are volunteers. We do not work for Microsoft. We work with Microsoft Word. So if you have a complaint for Microsoft, contact them; but if you have suggestions or comments about this site, we’d love to hear from you. Just click on Contact at the top or bottom of this page.
Since we’re volunteers with “day jobs” of our own, we do not offer free personal help through this site. Most of us, however, do provide free answers to questions asked on Microsoft’s web forums. To learn how to access these forums, click here.
On the other hand, a number of the Word MVPs are consultants who may be able to offer you solutions for a fee. If you are interested in such services, click on the About Us link above for more info about specific MVPs and how to contact them.
And, please, enjoy exploring these pages!

New book review: Using Microsoft Office to Create Content That Gets Noticed
Stephanie Krieger has written a book for both Word 2011 and Word 2010. A very compact reference for using Word in the real world to get important work done!
Hot Issues
Mac Word 2011 is out, and it has a few teething problems (all software does)...
Asterisks Bug: This one is nasty. Click here for work-arounds.
Font Weeding. If the application hangs and freezes a lot, particularly at startup, see here.
Can't Open Files: This can be because of non-letter characters in the file name or path. See here.
Can't Save to Server: Sorry: this one is still with us. Microsoft thought they had fixed it, but it's back. There's a Severity 1 incident open on it.
Word won't open documents the way I left them. It will now!
